During the colder months, afternoon tea is served inside the house – in front of roaring fires! The grand lobby with its enormous antique chandelier, comfy chairs and gilded cornices is a welcoming and relaxed space – albeit stunningly grand – with smaller rooms to each side also used for informal dining. Tea is usually served in the cosy, red Library, stylish Cocktail Bar and Lady Anne dining room – pristine white walls, with historical artwork telling some of the history of this handsome Grade 1 listed house (built in 1722 – over 100 years before Afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840).
Beautiful architecture, attentive staff, great food – with delicious fruit scones made freshly in house and served warm – a grand oak staircase and a formal dining room with Palladian-style Corinthian columns and ceiling of swirling Rocco scrolls.
In the warmer months, Afternoon Tea is also served from the private gardens and terrace. A peaceful sun-trap complete with small, wooded play area for children. Why not add a glass of prosecco or a bottle of Champagne for a special occasion? Large groups can be accommodated and gift vouchers are available.
